WHAT: Cronut. Also known as half croissant and half doughnut desert that originated in New York. Developed by chef Dominique Ansel for Dominique Ansel Bakery (New York). The bakery trademarked the name but imitation versions of Ansel’s croissant-doughnut hybrid recipe have sprung up in many parts of the world.
According to Wikipedia, The bakery’s Facebook site states that Cronut is not a generic term to describe all croissant-doughnut hybrids, but a specific pastry associated with the bakery.
