Cupcakes are Out. Macarons are in.

Today’s Dessert:  Macarons a.k.a. French Macarons.   If you live or visit Europe you’ll see this everywhere most especially in France.  But Los Angeles is trending macarons everywhere too! Hello Bottega Louie?!”

What is Macaron:  First, don’t mistake this for another dessert called “macaroon” or what some people refer as the “coconut macaroon”.  Let’s adopt the French spelling of macaron to distinguish the two items in the English.

“Macaron is s a sweet meringue-based confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond and food coloring.   The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies”  (source: Wikipedia)

What are the different flavors of Macarons:  Many.  There are vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, chocolate, espresso, pistachio, strawberry, raspberry, butter cream, white chocolate, lemon, passion fruit, etc. to name a few and I like most of them!
