WHAT: Portable Document Format (PDF) is the de facto standard for the secure and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms around the world.  CutePDF Writer is the free version of commercial PDF converter software.

WHAT DO YOU USE IT FOR:  Can be used to save PDF forms to your computer to fill in at your convenience or e-mail completed forms.  For example, you have this Word document (a contract for example) you want to send to your colleagues, vendors or suppliers that you don’t want to be edited and treated as a final document.  In order to do this, you need to convert the Word document to a PDF format.

WHY I LIKE CUTEPDF: It’s simple and it works!  FREE for commercial and non-commercial use!  No watermarks!  No Popup Web Ads!  (source: http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp)

I just want to take a note though that in the process of installing the software you maybe asked to add some website to be your default website (I think it’s askJeeves or something… don’t remember anymore because I have installed mine many moons ago!).  You are given the option to un-check or opt out.  Other than that, there are no other hassles or catch!

HOW DO YOU USE IT:  After you install the software it adds a printer in your Devices and Printers (if using Windows 7) called “CUTEPDF”.  Now all you just have to do is to print your Microsoft Word document to this CUTEPDF printer and that’s it. It will be converted.

OTHER USES:  Whenever I purchase something online and would like to print copies of the receipts for my record, I print the page to my CutePDF printer instead and save it to my harddrive.  This way I saved paper, trees and free from any clutter!  Besides, I don’t need paper records for everything I want to keep!
